Be My Valentine!
Valentine’s Day Card Making Workshop for Children

Tuesday, February 12 at 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Garage

Create your own Valentine’s Day cards for someone special! Following a "history detective" tour of the historic mansion, Tudor Place Artist-in-Residence Peter Waddell leads children in an art workshop to design their own Valentine cards. Historic Valentine’s Day cards from the Tudor Place collection serve as an inspiration for their creations.

A Taste of Romance on Valentine's Day
Thursday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Location: Main House

Experience Tudor Place at twilight! Surprise your valentine with the perfect beginning to a romantic evening. Enjoy wine and chocolate in the Conservatory and musical entertainment by Grammy Award Nominee, Andrea Hoag, as you stroll through the historic house. A special exhibit featuring black tie costumes, jewelry, and antique valentines from the Tudor Place collection is on display. Included with admission - complimentary champagne cocktail when you have dinner at Juniper, the restaurant in the Fairmont Hotel (coupons at the door).

Celebrate George on Presidents’ Day!
Monday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Reading: 11:30 & 12:30)
Location: Main House

Celebrate George Washington by spending your Presidents’ Day at Tudor Place. Families enjoy an interactive tour of the 1816 mansion and children’s crafts, including an art workshop with Tudor Place Artist-in-Residence Peter Waddell. George Washington's 1775 letter to Martha Washington is on public viewing for this day only. The letter, written on the eve of Washington's departure from Philadelphia to take command of the Continental Army, reveals the human and sentimental side of this revered hero. Martha Washington reads the letter at noon! After the reading, join Martha for a traditional tea ceremony featuring her famous pound cake! A special exhibit featuring rarely displayed Washington pieces, including a piece of Martha Washington’s wedding dress, a miniature of George Washington, and other Washington relics is on display.

Eggstravaganza at Tudor Place!
Saturday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Celebrate Spring and Easter at Tudor Place’s Second Annual Eggstravaganza! Children of all ages enjoy the largest Egg Hunt in Washington D.C. and a thrilling Egg Roll Contest. After the exciting games, spend the morning decorating festive eggs and building a spring basket! The Easter Bunny is available for pictures all morning. Visitors also enjoy a self-guided tour of Tudor Place’s 5 ½ acres of glorious gardens. The Egg Hunt begins at 10:30 a.m. and the Egg Roll follows at 11:00 a.m. Bring your own basket, spoon, and one hard-boiled egg per child.
Online registration closed. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

Spring Break at Tudor Place
Create your Own Garden!

Children explore the 51/2- acre historic gardens in search of flowers, trees, plants, and wildlife. Following the tour children learn about key principles of gardening and create a small flower garden to take home!

Children take an interactive tour of the garden and landscape while observing a variety of flowers, trees, plants, and wildlife. Following the tour children make a special garden craft to take home!

April Shower of Flowers
Tuesday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Pierce Arrow Garage

Rance Goff, Chief Designer at ULTRA Violet Flowers in Georgetown, directs a hands-on demonstration of flower arranging. A nationally acclaimed designer who has been featured in many national magazines and on syndicated television, Goff’s informative approach and attention to artistic detail inspires you to create dazzling arrangements.

The program includes spring flower arrangement ideas, a glimpse of current trends in floral design, and an interactive presentation on how to create a spring floral arrangement. Participants build their own arrangements, so bring your garden scissors and your creative energy!

Yoga in the Garden
Tuesdays, April 22 through June 24 at 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Breathe, energize and center yourself at Tudor Place’s Yoga in the Garden. With over 5 years teaching experience throughout the Metropolitan Washington DC area, Monu Harnal, teaches Hatha Yoga structured on the traditional Sivananda style that combines proper breathing, proper relaxation, sequenced poses and meditation. In each session students learn different poses and how to build concentration and control breathing leading to relaxation. Monu takes the class through a series of joint freeing movements (pre-pre yoga), sun salutations (series of flowing yoga warm ups), comfortable yoga stretches and stimulating breathing techniques. This class is designed for all levels.

Children’s Tea in the Garden

Celebrate spring with a traditional early American Tea Party! Children and adults sample period teas and delicious deserts in Tudor Place’s beautiful gardens! Join costumed interpreters for a lesson in tea etiquette. After the tea ceremony, children make a special period craft to take home and are instructed in early American dance!

Behind the Scenes Tour

This special tour takes you inside the house to explore areas not regularly shown to visitors. The extensive restoration project and discoveries made during the restoration will be highlighted. Features to be included in the tour include an underground bomb shelter and the basement of the mansion.

Georgetown Garden Treasures: Tudor Place and Dumbarton Oaks

Celebrate the beauty of spring in Georgetown! This popular annual guided tour of two of Washington, D.C.’s most historic and beautiful gardens provides a wonderful opportunity to experience these landscapes with the people who know them best: Gail Griffin, Director of Gardens & Grounds at Dumbarton Oaks, and Mary K. Crow, Horticulturalist at Tudor Place. Learn how the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks and Tudor Place have evolved aesthetically since the nineteenth century and the challenges surrounding their preservation today.

Historic Gems of Georgetown: Museum & Garden Tours at Dumbarton Oaks, Tudor Place, and Dumbarton House

Celebrate spring in Georgetown! This special program takes you inside three of Georgetown’s most historic houses and gardens at a very special price. Stroll through 16 acres of majestically designed gardens at Dumbarton Oaks. Discover 180 years of Georgetown history as you tour the 1816 mansion and gardens at Tudor Place. Explore early Georgetown history while touring Dumbarton House, a ca. 1800 historic home.

Ticket price includes admission to all three museums.

Children help cook and sample snacks and drinks of times past, try on period clothing, explore the historic garden, plant their own garden, play historic games, paint watercolor landscapes, go on an archaeological expedition, and much more! The week ends with an early American “parlor party” that children host for parents and friends!

Snack provided. For Full Day ONLY children bring bagged lunch.
