Tudor Place

Birthday Parties

A Benefit of Membership

Tudor Place is the ideal setting for creative birthday parties for children ages 4 to 12. A benefit of Family and higher levels of Tudor Place membership is the opportunity to host a child's birthday party. You bring the guests, cake, and young imaginations – we do the rest!

Choose the perfect theme for your group from the list below. Programs can be scaled to different age groups. Your 2-hour celebration includes a hands-on museum or garden tour, staff-led games and take-home craft, and a gift for the birthday child.

Fairy Tea Party/Wizard Revel

Children dress up in magical fairy and wizard costumes, seek "enchanted” gardens and charmed nooks across the landscaped estate, and make a magical craft to take home.

Garden Detectives

Children search the landscape for garden plants and creatures, then plant their own gardens to take home.

Afternoon Tea Party

Children learn how early Americans took tea as they themselves enjoy caffeine-free brews, desserts, and sweets with their friends. Dolls and stuffed animals are welcome guests, with their own place-settings! (Note: this program has a $50 surcharge that covers tea and desserts. Host-provided cake is optional.)

Toys through Time

Children explore the historic mansion with a mission: to find “hidden” toys from ages past. Next, they apply their new knowledge by crafting toys of their own.

Reserve Your Date!

Birthday parties are available in morning (10:00 am–12:00 pm) and afternoon (1:00 pm–3:00 pm) timeslots, Tuesday–Saturday. Early reservations (3-month minimum) are highly recommended to secure your desired day.

To schedule your party, please contact Laura Brandt, 202.965.0400 x108. A $100 non-refundable deposit will hold your reservation, with the balance due two weeks before the scheduled date.

A party fee of $375 covers up to 10 children, including the birthday child. Each additional child (up to 20 maximum) is $20. Adults are free; two adults must remain with the group, and total capacity is 2 adults for every 5 children. Reservations can be secured by check or credit card.

Set-Up and Decorations

Chairs and tables will be set up in advance. Hosts may arrive up to 30 minutes before guests for set-up. To protect the historic spaces, decorations are limited to tabletops and chair backs, with nothing attached to the walls or ceiling. Confetti, feathers, streamers, piñatas, and noisemakers and outside music players are not permitted.

For all parties except the Afternoon Tea Party, parents provide cake and drinks of their choosing, along with utensils, tablecloths and any additional party favors. Please do not bring other food: pizza, ice cream, and crumbly snacks are not permitted. The Museum has a small refrigerator that can be used by prior arrangement for party refreshments.

Cake and Candles

Guests bring the cake and candles. We provide the lighter, as matches may not be used on the historic site.

Chaperones and Adult Guests

To provide the best experience for your event, two adult chaperones must remain with the group at all times. Maximum party size is limited to 20 children and 28 persons total.

Dress and Museum Manners

Your party is an educational opportunity. Please discuss museum manners with your group beforehand and explain that a “no-touch” policy applies while touring the historic house. For party attire, we recommend casual play clothes and shoes, because parties take place rain or shine.

To Cancel or Reschedule

If you need to cancel or reschedule a program, contact the Education Department immediately. Although deposits are not refundable, rescheduling is possible if the museum receives notice at least 3 weeks before the party date. If severely inclement weather causes a cancellation, the museum will reschedule or provide a full refund.
